The British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has instructed civil servants to make plans to end the dependence of British imports from China. For vital medical supplies and other strategic imports in connection with the corona virus outbreak.

The Times newspaper reported on Friday, May 22, 2020, that plans that had been coded as “Project Defend”. Included identifying the UK’s main economic vulnerability to potentially hostile foreign governments, as part of a broader new approach to security national. This project will be led by Foreign Minister Dominic Raab.

Quoted from Reuters, 22 May 2020, two working groups have been formed as part of the project. With one source telling The Times that the aim is to diversify supply lines so that they no longer depend on individual countries for non-food essential goods.

This project came about when Beijing had overcome the increasing international condemnation of the handling of the corona virus outbreak. Which began in China before it spread throughout the world.
