South Korea reported another surge in new cases of the corona virus on Thursday (5/28). The addition of daily cases was the largest in almost two months.
The South Korean Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced 79 new cases on Thursday bringing the total to 11,344, and 269 deaths.
Most of the new infections originate from the densely populated metropolitan area of Seoul. That is the biggest increase since 81 cases were announced on April 5.
Quoted from AFP, of 79 new cases, 69 of them occurred in the e-commerce company Coupang warehouse in Bucheon, west of Seoul.
Deputy health minister Kim Gang-lip said about 4,100 workers and people who had entered the building were now isolated. More than 80 percent of them have been tested for corona virus.
“We expect that the number of new cases related to warehouses will continue to grow until we have completed the test today,” he said.
This surge occurred when officials tried to handle the new cluster at the nightclub and anticipate the threat of a second wave of Covid-19 infection.
South Korea, which is considered to be one of the successful examples of overcoming a pandemic. Has eased various restrictions and entered a new normal life. Even students have returned to school.
